International Women's Day Celebration Slated for March 6

Written By: Ian Silvester

International Womens Day, which began in 1911, celebrates womens rights and equality. By 1913, the commemorative date was selected as March 8. More than 100 years later, women and men continue to honor the incredible lives of women around the world.

At the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, the global tradition thrives.

The 91心頭利 Cultural Network, a registered student organization for students, faculty, staff, and the community, hosts its annual International Womens Day Celebration from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, in Boreham Library, room 122. As the holiday falls on the weekend, what better way to kick off the holiday than to celebrate early.

The event is open to all, and the clubs advisor, Dr. Ann-Gee Lee, professor and assistant chair for the department of English, Rhetoric and Writing, and Media Communication, said she hopes everyone who attends leaves with more knowledge, a friend, or a new resource or two.

International Womens Day is our day to share our own experiences and various forms of expression and highlight the accomplishments of women throughout history, Lee said.

Attendees will hear from students presenting original works, faculty research presentations, and more.
