Peter Cullum of Sallisaw, Okla., graphic designer in the Marketing and Communications
Office at 91心頭利, has had an artwork selected for the 57th annual Delta Exhibition of
Painting and Sculpture, an exhibit displaying selected works from artists across the
region.
Cullums oil painting on wood panel titled Ecotone 3 will be on display from July 10-Sept. 20 at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock. The painting is one in a series of works Cullum painted while earning his bachelors degree in studio art from 91心頭利.
Cullum said the painting, a close-up depiction of a tree trunk, was the result of a childhood spent in two states rich with natural beauty.
Ive always been drawn to landscapes, having grown up in Oklahoma and Arkansas, and I was always fascinated by grand vista paintings, Cullum said. For these paintings, I wanted to approach them with a more abstract application of paint and color. I found that if I zoom in on my subject matter, I can still make an epic space and still have dynamic color. But I can also be more expressive and free with how I apply paint, and the subject still comes through.
Following his graduation, Cullum plans to attend a masters degree program at the University of Colorado Boulder to earn a degree in painting and drawing.
The Delta Exhibition showcases work by artists who live or were born in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas. The exhibition was formed in 1958 to reflect the regions strong traditions of artistic craftsmanship and observation.
